This Southern California city is known for sunshine, beaches and the film industry, Los Angeles, often called "The City of Angels" is the second most populated city in the United States behind New York City and is known for the diversity of its residents. It was founded in 1781, obtained by Mexico from 1821-1848 and was incorporated in 1850. Some of the city's most popular tourist attractions are The Hollywood Sign, Capitol Records Building, TCL Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Griffith Observatory, The Getty Center, Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Hollywood Bowl and Staples Center.
Walk Of Fame
More than 2,500 Terrazzo and brass stars bearing the names of the entertainment industry's brightest acts are paved in the sidewalks running for 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles. The Hollywood Walk of Fame honors actors, musicians, directors, producers, broadcasters, music groups and fictional characters who have achieved a certain level of success in their careers. Construction on the walk began in 1958 with 1,558 names chosen for the first layout and many including Hollywood Chamber of Commerce former president E.M. Stuart and Hollywood Improvement Association former president Harry Sugarman have been credited with thinking up the Walk of Fame idea.
Beverly Hills
The world-famous Southern California city is known for posh stores, luxury hotels, expensive homes and rich people. Beverly Hills was incorporated in 1914 two years after the construction of the renowned Beverly Hills Hotel began. Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford were the first movie stars to build a mansion in the new city in 1919. Other famous Beverly Hills residents throughout the years include Will Rogers, Gloria Swanson, Charlie Chaplin, John Barrymore, Rudolph Valentino, Jay Leno and Taylor Swift.
Sunset Boulevard
The well-known 1.5-mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard located in West Hollywood can be identified by its giant glossy billboards, famous restaurants, popular nightclubs and a variety of shops. Sunset Strip situated between Doheny Drive and N. Crescent Heights Boulevard was heavily frequented by celebrities and the wealthy in the 1930s and 1940s then by rock bands and club goers in the 1960s and 1970s. Notable attractions are Viper Room, The Roxy, Rainbow Bar & Grill, The Whisky A GoGo, Sunset Tower Hotel, Garden of Allah apartments, Schwab's Drugstore, London Fog, Andaz West Hollywood, The Comedy Store, Rocky and Bullwinkle Statue and Tiffany Theater.
